Trauma Therapy in Kansas City &
Across Kansas and Missouri

What happened to you still lives in your body, even if you've moved on with your life.‍ ‍

Maybe it was one event. Maybe it was years of something that wore you down slowly enough that you didn't call it trauma until much later, if you've called it that at all. Either way, you've likely built a life that looks fine from the outside while carrying something underneath it that still gets triggered, still flares up, still doesn't feel finished.

‍ You don't have to have the "right" kind of trauma story to belong here. If something happened that changed how safe the world feels, that's enough.

What Trauma Therapy With Me Looks Like‍ ‍

I'm Andrea Parfet, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker offering virtual trauma therapy for adults throughout Missouri and Kansas. I work with high-functioning adults, the ones who've gotten good at holding it together, who often don't recognize their own experience as "trauma" because they're still managing, still showing up, still succeeding by every outside measure. That doesn't mean it isn't costing you something.

‍ I use EMDR and CBT, both evidence-based approaches for trauma. EMDR works directly with how traumatic memories get stored in the nervous system, which is often why they still feel so present even years later. CBT helps address the thought patterns and beliefs that trauma tends to leave behind: hypervigilance, self-blame, difficulty trusting, a nervous system stuck bracing for the next thing. Together, they address both what happened and how it's still showing up in your life now.‍ ‍

Common Signs Trauma May Still Be Affecting You

  • ‍Feeling on edge or easily startled, even when nothing is actively wrong

  • Avoiding certain people, places, or situations without fully knowing why

  • Trouble trusting others, or trouble letting your guard down even with people you love

  • Intrusive memories, nightmares, or moments that feel like you're back there

  • A persistent sense that something bad is about to happen

  • Emotional numbness, or feeling disconnected from yourself and people around you‍ ‍

Why Virtual Trauma
Therapy Works

Trauma work asks a lot of you, and doing it from a space that already feels safe (your own home) can lower the barrier to actually engaging with it. Research supports telehealth as equally effective as in-person therapy for trauma treatment, including EMDR specifically.‍ ‍
